A Nation in Peril

Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

As a member of the generation that grew up in the 1960’s, I well remember walking the streets of Santa Cruz, California. On many corners there would be college students sitting in small circles and almost always one would have a guitar. He or she would begin to play and they would sing their songs about love and freedom. It was the birth of a rebellion in our country that wanted love without responsibility. The philosophy was “if it feels right do it.” There was no consideration of the consequences or the scars that would be created. It was birthed out of selfishness and has brought us  to where we are now as a nation.

Nothing  birthed out of selfishness ever brings joy or success. As a result the wealth and pride of a nation that was gifted to us by those who were willing to shed their blood for our freedom is quickly disappearing. And unless we return to the foundations of honesty  and care for one another, and the acceptance of responsibility for our actions, this nation as we know it will reach its climax. History shows us what happens as selfishness begins to rule a nation. If we allow it to happen destruction is eminent and unavoidable.
