Called By My Name…

II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We all have a name by which we are called. It may be of a few letters or it may be exotic or unusual. I never cease to be amazed at some of the names parents give their children. In the Bible God chose names for his chosen servants and the leaders of the children of Israel. Abram for example became Abraham at the instruction of God. We could list several others whose names were changed by God. Jesus even gave some of His disciples new names.

That leads us to the question, "By what name are you known?" Oh I do not mean the name that is used to call you to dinner, but that which comes to mind when people think about you. In our verse for today, God speaks of His people who are called by His name.  I wonder if we are close enough to God that people see His name in us. I wonder if we are such a testimony of God's presence that people would say we are a people of His name. That really should be the truth for all believers. As individuals and as a church we should be called by His name.

God lays the foundation for such happening. He says that if we will humble ourselves, and pray and seek His face that we will be known as His people. If we turn to Him and away from the wicked ways of the world, He will hear our prayers and forgive our sins. Further He will heal our land. Nations of our world are not known by the name of God,

The United States has been known historically by its declaration on our currency "In God We Trust". Also by our pledge that we are  "One nation under God". We need to return to those foundations so that we can be known as a people " called by His name".

Keep Looking Up,

Dan
