…A Clean Heart…A Right Spirit

Psalm 51:10-12 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

As men and women born as sinners by birth, the words of the writer of this Psalm are needed by us all.  There is no greater feeling than that of a clean heart created by God. We cannot cleanse ourselves from sin. It is a work that only God can accomplish. I have to go to him and ask Him through the sacrifice of Jesus to forgive me of  my sins and clean my heart. All relationship with God must begin there.

There is no other way. Acts 4:12 states, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." It is only by the name of Jesus that we can have salvation. He paid the price for our forgiveness. He made the sacrifice on the cross so that God could create a clean heart in us. As just a child when I called on God to forgive me of my sins, I knew the difference that He made. May we all continue to pray, "Create a clean heart in me…"

When we ask for a clean heart, that must be followed by a change in our human spirit. My approach to life has to change as God works on me. Before receiving Christ as my Saviour, there were all kinds of malices in my spirit. When we invite Jesus in all of that has to change. Our thoughts about certain actions and even certain people have to change. God softens and grants us a forgiving spirit. It takes the place of the selfish and at times hateful spirit that was there before. Let us pray with the writer of the Psalm, "renew a right spirit within me…"

The presence and the joy of the Lord can be in each of our hearts. We just need to ask Him to come in to cleanse us and change our attitudes. We need to become more and more like Him. Let's invite our God to draw us so close to Him that we begin to reflect who He is to the world in which we live.

Keep Looking Up,
