A Peculiar Treasure…Kept By God

Exodus 19:5  Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth [is] mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Our verse today consists of the word God told Moses to give to the people of Israel after He had delivered them from slavery in Egypt. The blessing of Israel as a nation depended on their obedience unto God and the keeping of the covenant he had make with them.

As people of the United States of America, we need to hear the words of Moses for the principle he gives has not changed. If we are to have the blessing of God, we must obey his word. The Holy Bible must be our roadmap and we must follow the commands of God.

As we are approaching the celebration of Memorial Day, we should not only celebrate the men and women who have given their lives for our freedom, but we should remember the reasons they were willing to die.  In our history, the celebration of Memorial Day has often included religious services which remind us of why we are such a blessed country.

Through the years God's hand has been upon us! God has kept us and protected us from much of what has gone on in the rest of the world. I believe that God has protected us because we stood out as a people that were known to be a Christian nation. I am not saying we were perfect but the foundations of faith taught in the Bible formed our foundations. We held to certain standards of decency and respected the moral rights of each man and woman. Each person was allowed to believe as they wished without fear of reprisal from others.

However, those foundations have been challenged and in recent years they have crumbled under the attacks of many who do not want to respect the laws of God.  It seems that we have lost those morals and beliefs that caused God to protect and keep us safe. As we approach this Memorial Day, we need to once again strengthen those foundations so that we can once again say that we are "One Nation Under God".

Keep Looking Up!
