Father Forgive Them…

Luke 23:33-35 KJV – 33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided [him], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

The words of Jesus on the cross are beyond amazing! As He is hung between two thieves, He is not given to hatred for what the crowds and soldiers had done.

Instead, we hear Him utter a prayer to His Father. “Father forgive them; for they know not what they do.”

They are words that I can still hear Him praying over the men and women who are in our present world. The rebellion of our nation crucifies Him over and over again. Yet the price He paid on the cross is still available to all who will repent of their sin and ask Him to become their Savior.

In this week before we celebrate His resurrection, we need to remember that even in death He was without sin. He bore your sins and mine as He was hung on the cross. He died for our freedom.

Hear the words of Christ as His prayer travels through thousands of years. “Father forgive them”.

We are a nation in need of forgiveness. You and I are in need of forgiveness! It is only Jesus who can give us that freedom from sin and set us free.

As we approach the celebration of Christ stepping from the tomb take advantage of His prayer for us. Repent of your sins and invite Jesus to be your Lord. He will forgive you and set you free.
