Just an Old Pair of Shoes!

Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you fed me. I was thirsty and you gave me to drink. I was a stranger and you invited  me into your home.

They were sitting in the corner of the office and I was talking with the Superintendent of the Pajaro Rescue Mission In Watsonville, California. He suddenly asked me “Do you see those shoes?” I looked at the warn pair of shoes and saw nothing unusual. They were very typical of the shoes on most of the men we had in the service that night. Far past the normal wear with scuffs, no polish or shine and laces that had been held together by a number of well placed knots.

I told him I saw the shoes. However Brother Baker saw far more than I did.  “Those shoes led to the salvation of a man”, he said. A man had come into the  mission looking for food and not only been fed but had been given a donated pair of shoes to replace the worn out pair now sitting in the corner. Also he had responded to the invitation Brother Baker had given him to accept  Jesus Christ as his Savior. The man was now living at the mission and his life was completely changed.

I wonder what we can give to someone in need today that might turn their life in a new direction. It might not even be something that we can see and touch like a pair of shoes. Maybe we could give some time from a busy day or a kind word. Possibly just a smile at a lonely person on the street might make a much bigger difference than you can ever imagine.

What miracles can take place because we are willing to give even the smallest consideration to someone who is hurting. Give a little of yourself and see what God might do!
