Ruth Clave Unto Her…

Ruth 1:14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

The Old Testament book of Ruth is one of the most beloved in scripture. It contains a story of love and loyalty. It even paints a picture of rescue from poverty to prosperity. We know the widow Naomi who followed her husband to the land of Moab to escape famine in Bethlehem.  In Moab, Naomi suffered the loss to death of her husband and both of her sons. As a result, Naomi decides to return to Bethlehem where the famine has ended. Before she goes she tells her two daughters in law to return to their families so they could remarry and have provision. Orpah though she loves Naomi decides to do so. And there we have our verse for today. Ruth in contrast stays with Naomi.

Our verse for today says "Ruth clave unto her". I picture Naomi tightly hugging Naomi and refusing to let her go. Hence we have the story of Ruth returning to Bethlehem with Naomi. A place where because of her heritage, she was likely to be an outcast. Such love speaks to you and me as we approach this Mother's Day. It is the type of love that we all desire and need to show to one another.

Our world tosses the word love about very cheaply. It is nothing like the love that Ruth had for Naomi or the love that God wants us to have for each other. Our families should be enveloped in such love. Mom's make that your husbands and children know that you have that special kind of love for them. It must have been the love that Naomi had shared with Ruth  and it returned to her.  It will never fail. You also will receive that same love from your family, if you share it with them.;

Keep Looking Up,
