So You May Have Peace!

John 16:33: "I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world."

Jesus is speaking to His disciples after he has spoken to them of His crucifixion.  If you read all of John chapter 16, there is great truth of what is to happen to Jesus. Much of which will be very difficult for the disciples to understand. What Jesus is saying is contrary to what they want to believe concerning Jesus future. He is to be their deliverer and there is no thought in their minds that he should die on a cross as evil forces try to destroy Him. But out of His own mouth comes the truth He is going away and the disciples themselves are going to face persecution.

It will not be long before they will be scattered and people will not want to received their witness about Jesus.

John 16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

What Jesus is telling His disciples sounds much like our world today. Men and women do not want to hear the truth of the gospel. Instead they want to live by their own rules and ignore the morality and foundations that the Bible teaches. As a result the Christian finds sorrow and trials. But we have Jesus promise that this is only temporary.

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace."

Jesus is teaching His disciples the truths of this chapter that they can have peace.  The words are also for us today. In the midst of all the trouble in our world, we can have peace.  Jesus has overcome the problems of our world and in Him we can have peace.  Do not be overcome by what you see or hear. Lean on Jesus and let His peace fill your heart.  He has made provision for us!  All we need to do is accept it.

Keep Looking Up,
