The Joy of the Lord!

Nehemiah 8:10  And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!” (NLT)

Life holds its share of difficulties. I know mine does.  Things just happen and our response determines the successes or failures in our lives.  We strive for happiness in our daily lives but happiness is such a fleeting thing. It is influenced by our circumstances, how we feel physically, how we are treated by our peers and a multitude of other things.  If you are striving for happiness, you life is likely to be roller coaster of emotions. Up one day and down the next!

Nehemiah is observing a people whose hearts have been saddened as a reading of the laws of God have reminded them of their sins as a nation.  As they looked at their history and saw their failures they were downhearted.  Nehemiah reminds them that it is not their strength that will deliver them from where they are, but the strength of God!

Let me encourage you when you are overwhelmed with your  circumstances or when you feel that you have failed miserably, to remember that your life is not based on your human circumstances.  God can bring us victory inspite of all that is going on around us.  The joy of the Lord is our strength!

Keep Looking up!
