Under Authority

Matthew 8:8-10 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

In our Sunday evening services at Fountain of  Life, I have been teaching on a biblical understanding of authority. The centurion in our verses for  today had a great grasp on authority. He knew he had the power to give his soldiers orders that would be followed. He also knew that his power came because he was a man under authority. Because of his personal understanding of authority, the centurion understood Jesus authority. He knew all Christ had to do was speak the word and his servant would be healed.

Our society is in a great battle about authority. No one wants to be under authority  and as a result there is great strife throughout our nation. We have rejected biblical concepts and as a result of our unwillingness to come under the authority of God we are floundering. As people march, wave banners, and shout their slogans it only adds to the confusion.

Until we as a nation return God to his rightful place of authority, there will continue to be confusion and distress. We can have authority but only as we come under His authority. We must recognize that God is still in control and only under His authority do we find that we have power. We can make America great again! However, we can only accomplish it by once again recognizing the authority of God.  Our only authority comes as we place ourselves under Him.

Keep Looking Up,
